22 Nov From A to Z4M
Sometimes, one cool car just isn’t enough.
Earlier on in the fall, we profiled a 7-series that, among other things, has a custom Fluid exhaust and a supercharger. Now it’s time to turn our attention to our client’s other whip, a Z4M. The Z4 Roadster itself is a pretty sweet machine, putting down some good power in a tiny frame. After going through the motions from BMW’s M division, it’s become an even crazier machine, regardless of the fact that it may or may not look a bit like a piece of footwear for a giant. Now it’s our turn to work the magic, but before we get into detail on the parts, here are some pictures from when it first rolled through the shop:
Enjoy the engine bay and ride height in the pictures, because they won’t be looking like that for very long. Not with the beginning of a laundry list of parts we’re going to be installing:
We’re not installing anything crazy right off the bat; rather, we’re starting with more mild pieces and slowly turning up the volume. After all, we don’t need any eardrums exploding (unless it’s from our Pandora station pumping through the garage’s speakers). To start, we’re adding some headers to help optimize the flow of the exhaust gas, and as always, they’re coated with Swain Tech’s ceramic coating to keep the unwanted heat out of the engine bay.
Since height is really only good for basketball players and off-road vehicles, we’re going to be dropping the Z4M on some KW coilovers, and setting up the stance right proper with some camber plates:
The only first-round modification that could be considered somewhat more than mild would be changing the ratio of the Z4M’s differential to aid in the initial get-up-and-go:
Other than that, we’ve got some braking additions (including stainless steel lines) to tack on, and that about rounds out the first set of aftermarket parts that we’ll be outfitting to the Z4M. After that, we can’t exactly start spilling details, but don’t fret, there should be plenty of updates and plenty of power to go around once the ball starts rolling.
