21 Jun Mounted
Today, we’re bypassing the obvious double entendre and just mentioning that we’ve fabricated mounts for a few items in the past day or two.
The first is a bit of a surprise. It’s only going to get better from here…
The rest, on the other hand, comes from something we’ve seen before — George’s 318i turbo. First, his turbo looked a little shaky, only being held in position by the various piping attached to it. Therefore, we made it a mount, coming off the valve cover bolts:
And given that mild steel will rust if unprotected, we gave it some extra street cred by painting it black:
Finally, there’s a few more mounting solutions that need to be tackled. One of the largest (and therefore most difficult to place) is the area for mounting the coilpacks. Luckily, this is an inline-4 in an engine bay built for a V-12 (or at least it seems that way), so we managed to find a flat spot that was just big enough to house all four coilpacks and our associated hardware:
