03 May Looks Can Be Deceiving
If you’ve ever tried to buy furniture on Craigslist, or picked somebody up in a bar, then this title is for you. And also for the cars we’re featuring today.
Looks truly can be deceiving. For example, a little zooming out can take this Hummer H2 in for service…
And turn it into this not-very-small-at-all stretch H2 limousine that’s in for some basic maintenance. If anything gets worse gas mileage than the H2, it’d be this:
Looks can also be deceiving when it comes to fabrication work. What seems easy may not actually turn out that way. Case in point — the C63 midsection. We installed the Kleeman manifolds, which should be a simple bolt-on affair, as our midsection flanges meet up in the same space and shape as stock. Sadly, the Kleemans have a different flange entirely, so we went about modifying the C63’s FMU midsection to fit the Kleemans. First, the old ends need to be cut off…
Then the new flanges need to be welded to the new piece of downpipe, which is then reattached to the rest of the midsection. As always, we’ve got the finished end and some quality welds to show off:
