17 Aug Zach Berlin – A Retrospective
Today, one of the more unsung long-term members of the Fluid family has departed. This post is dedicated to Zach Berlin.
No, no, he didn’t die or anything. But it’s still always a bit of a low note that accompanies a long-term employee’s departure. It’s a shame he’s gone, but while he was here with us, he was indispensable.
We’d be remiss if we said that every job on every car was a boatload of fun. Some of them definitely are not. Some of them are vaguely related to old, medieval torture methods that haven’t been practiced in five hundred years. And some of us like to be a bit more vocal than others when it comes to accepting said displeasures. Zach, however, was a trooper. Fun or not, he came in to work every day ready for whatever challenge awaited him. He didn’t just meet expectations consistently, he exceeded them consistently. Which is a lot more than we can say for Tom. Hell, Zach even put up with your humble blogger’s incessant desire to post up candid, awkwardly-posed shots.
He was also pretty solid when it came to growing a beard, as evidenced by our No Shave November 2010 exit portraits. And that’s with a mid-month shave! Ladies, if you get down on the lumberjack style, we’ve got some digits for you. Oh, wait — he’s actually getting married in February. Never mind. Sorry, gals.
All in all, he’s one of the best employees you could ask for, and an even better friend. His selflessness and devotion to not only his job, but also his friends and family, helped remind us exactly why we hired him in the first place. Ever since then, as we’ve grown, so has he, and while it’s a damn shame he’s leaving us, we’ll always remember his contribution to Fluid MotorUnion and how he helped each and every one of us not only better ourselves as workers, but as people.
So, with all that lovey-dovey jargon being said, let’s raise our glasses (it’s Friday, you’re already drinking, right?) and offer up a toast to an all-around great guy. Zach Berlin, this one’s from all of us to you.
Have a great weekend.
