21 Sep Tom’s Latest: E46 M3 Midsection
We here at Fluid are beginning to feel like Larry Flynt. The smut we peddle, though, is of a different variety of his. Here in Plainfield, we are incredibly proud of Craig’s and Tom’s metalwork, and we are not afraid to display as much of it as often as we can.
We’ve had this yellow-ish M3 in our shop for quite some time (and it’s seen the front page of our blog in a previous post), tacking on various bits here and there. Today, though, Tom just finished a rather large addition to the M3’s underbelly. And when we say large, we definitely mean it.
Normally, a 3″ stainless-steel exhaust setup would provide plenty of airflow. For this particular E46, though, it needed something a bit beefier. So we attached a 3.5″ midsection from the header flanges to the mufflers. As we tend to do, we managed to get this one to shoot fireballs, too. Sadly, the O2 sensors were not about to let us spit fire, but the exhaust flow is still greatly improved over the old piping. The sound is much improved over the old midsection, though. Either way, we’re happy to once again post some pictures of some very fine welding. Tom continues to impress us, but we don’t want to give him too big of a head or anything. We’re all about humility at Fluid. Speaking of humility, here’s some gratuitous closeups of the welds:
The best part about THIS kind of porn is that you can look at it while you’re at work, and it’s totally free!
