21 Mar Junk In The Trunk
Today we’ll be featuring two BMWs that have more than enough room for plenty of junk in their respective trunks. Babies have back. Or something.
First up, we have an E70 X5. But not your typical X5; this one, a Motorsports-bred X5M, has a bit more punch than its non-M-badged brethren. Not only is it graced with the V8 TwinPower twin-turbo motor that puts out 555 bhp and 501 lb.ft, but it’s the only M car to feature BMW’s all-wheel-drive system…in the world. Unless you include the X6M, then there’s two. It’s not in here for anything power-related, but instead it came through for an aesthetic upgrade — namely, replacing the wheels.
What wheels are we replacing them with? Why, these, which we’ve painted black in our body shop:
A quick bead setting and balancing, and they were all set to mount. ‘Round these parts, we paint the wheels with the tires mounted but the beads not seated, to mitigate any potential damage or scratching taking place during a post-paint wheel mounting. Either way, the wheels were installed, and they definitely transform the look of this car to something a bit more menacing. Which makes sense, seeing as how it can out-menace a very large number of cars currently on the road.
Next up (second up sounds weird, doesn’t it?), we have a rather familiar face. If you’re one of the five people that read the comments below our blog posts, you might remember Bob posting a comment on our last 550ix GT post, saying that he’ll be back for muffler replacements, as it’s still a bit too quiet for his preference. Well…he’s back. And we’ve wasted no time in cutting down his old mufflers and putting together some suitable replacements.
We should have the conclusion to the F07 rear section on Friday, after a quick programming break. Stay tuned for our first-ever guest blog tomorrow!
