For Sale: ’98 Subaru Forester S, $4800 obo

For Sale: ’98 Subaru Forester S, $4800 obo

Up for sale is our personal errand car, a 1998 Subaru Forester S. It comes with the 2.5L flat-4 motor with 165 bhp from the factory.

The S trim is the top of the line, coming with a viscous limited-slip differential, heated front seats, heated sideview mirrors and keyless entry. Along with those upgrades, it comes with the standard ABS, air conditioning, power windows/locks, cruise control and foglights.

The car has been maintained well, and all the following parts have been recently replaced:

-Plugs + wires
-Radiator
-EVAP purge valve
-Timing belt
-Water pump
-Accessory belts
-Brake fluid (replaced with super blue high-temp fluid)
-Air filter
-Fuel filter

Our detailers have also recently detailed it. Along with the above replacement parts, the car has been given a few modifications for ride improvement, aesthetic improvement and above all else, fuel economy. With the mods in the place, the car achieves roughly 35 mpg highway and high-20’s in the city.

The modifications are as follows:

-KYB AGX adjustable shocks
-Subaru WRX STi lowering springs
-Subaru WRX STi brake master cylinder
-Subaru WRX STi steering wheel
-Subaru WRX caliper/rotor upgrade, all four corners
-Subaru WRX 20mm rear sway bar
-Fluid MotorUnion custom intake tube and modified airbox
-Fluid MotorUnion custom oil catch can
-Fluid MotorUnion custom stainless steel exhaust, header-back
-Fluid MotorUnion custom painted front bumper lip
-Fluid MotorUnion custom 0.75” phenolic intake manifold spacers
-Underdrive pulley
-Swain Tech ceramic-coated headers, also header-wrapped
-Upgraded head gasket
-Milled cylinder head to increase compression
-BMW X5 17” wheels with Adaptec Speedware adapters
-Alpine head unit with incorporated iPod dock cable

There are a few issues with the car, which we’ll describe below:

-The airbag light is currently on, due to a non-functioning seat mat that needs replacement. It does not interfere with the airbag functionality; all airbags work perfectly. You’ll just need to replace the seat mat.
-The rear differential hums a bit, but performs flawlessly.
-One of the fog light covers decided to run away from us on the highway.
-The exterior is in a “rough love” condition. There are a few dents, dings, and a bumper scrape on the rear driver side.

Other than that, the car works wonderfully and is great for hauling stuff around or just heading out into town to mess around. The A/C is ice cold, sound system works well, and she handles nicely as well. We’re asking $4800 obo, as the car may have a few cosmetic faults, but is otherwise in great condition. You can contact us by calling the office (815-230-2900) or by emailing us ([email protected]). We’ll gladly answer any questions you may have! With that said, here are the pictures!
