27 Dec Capping Off The Year
Don’t worry, this isn’t the last post of 2011, we just needed a clever title to fit in with today’s daily dose of Fluid MotorUnion.
Today’s post is going to be a bit shorter than usual, but it doesn’t mean it will be any less cool than the rest. We found ourselves in the midst of wire tucking Mike Burroughs’s S54-swapped E36, and with a bit of the ChristmaHanuKwanzaakah spirit, we figured we would add yet another special touch to an already-awesome engine bay. So, after a bit of work on the CNC, we came out with this:
What you see there is the oil filter cap for Mike Burroughs’s engine bay. Since we wanted to make sure StanceWorks lived on both inside and outside the car, we made him a custom aluminum filter cap with the painted engraving you see there. We’re currently researching the most efficient manufacturing method for these bad boys in blank form, as we might roll out a custom-engraving option with them as well. While we keep working on that from our end, take a look below at the BMW motors this will fit, and start getting excited.
Motors that will work with the FMU Custom Oil Filter Cap:
-S54
-M50
-S50
-M42
We are also open to developing these custom filter caps for motors not mentioned in the list. We’ll keep you updated on the status of these caps, and in the meantime, if you haven’t made plans for New Year’s Eve yet, you may want to get on that.

Posted at 09:07h, 28 DecemberDave,
Does the Audi A3 have an oil filter system similar to BMW, where the oil filter is housed externally from the block, in an enclosed system with a cap?
Dave
Posted at 01:20h, 29 Decemberhey, thanks for your answer….no, its not similar to BMW….it looks like this:

it won’t fit….:(
Thanks

Posted at 08:54h, 29 DecemberDave,
Yeah, it won’t fit. BMW’s system is a lot different than most other companies. If the oil filter connects directly to the motor of the car, then there’s no need for an enclosure with a cap. Sorry bud 🙁

Posted at 05:17h, 28 FebruaryAre these available at all yet?
fluidmotorunion
Posted at 08:18h, 28 FebruaryEarl, We can make them currently, but it would be manufactured to order in house at FMU; as a result, the price may be higher than one is looking to pay, but we’re still on the lookout for a more efficient method of getting these produced.
