10 Jan Another Busy Monday
It always seems that Monday is just an extension of Friday and Saturday. Even though it’s the beginning of the week, everybody shows up to work and dives in headfirst, like there wasn’t even a weekend.
That’s a good thing, especially with the amount of work that needs to be done in fabrication this week. Which is what the meat of this blog post will contain – updates from fabrication.
First up, the X5 is getting some wiring put in place, courtesy of Mr. Eastway. Once that’s done, there’s not much stopping us from showing off our final product. Get excited; we sure are. For now, though, here’s a very close-up picture of the X5’s wiring. Not that it’s important or vital to see; we just felt like something needed to accompany the X5’s news.
Next, the RS6 is nearing the final stages of the intake build. After some slight retweaks in the design, we believe we’ve come up with a better solution for the mounting and design of the intake system. We want to eliminate any excess rattling and heat soak, so we’ve decided to outfit some plating between the valve cover and the intake, to which the carbon fiber cans will be strapped. It’s still 100% bolt-on, which is a big priority for us. Here’s two shots of the box coming off the actual intake manifold, which should be getting welded together in a very short span of time.
Finally, there’s our project SL, a 1993 Mercedes 500SL. We’re going to start a build thread on StanceWorks first thing tomorrow morning that will chronicle everything and anything that happens to this vehicle, now that we’ve finally started to seriously tweak it. Needless to say, it will hold true to the first part of the Fluid MotorUnion project car design mantra, which is, “Slam it out and make it sound angry.” For the latter part of that quote, we’re starting work on the exhaust system, which will be custom-fabricated from the header flanges all the way through the tailpipes. Since Craig and Tom are working on it, you know it’s going to come out great. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s been going on with the exhaust:
Like we said, there’s a lot going on, especially with the SL500 by itself. Once the build thread comes up on StanceWorks, check it out. We’re definitely taking this car in some interesting directions, and there’s still plenty of road ahead of us.
