01 Apr The Big Reveal
Today, we’re finally releasing pictures of our esteemed Fluid MotorUnion X5 into the wild. But first, there’s an exhaust that begs to be mentioned.
Fab’s been hard at work, as always. It’s pretty much assumed at this point that these guys are always working like mad. This is one of their current projects. The rear section of this exhaust is from a C5 Corvette, it’s made from titanium, and it’s being retrofitted onto a 2008 Toyota Prius. Surprisingly, the rear ends of both these cars have a good amount in common, so all that it took to make it fit was a little bit of welding. Titanium welding. That automatically makes it cooler than regular steel welding, you know, because the name sounds futuristic. It’s also an incredibly durable, corrosion-resistant, lightweight metal that is perfect for Prius owners who want that better exhaust note without the added weight of a stainless steel system, keeping fuel milage somewhere near the range of a 1992 Geo Metro. Plus, it shoots white sparks when you mess around with it:
Here’s what the exhaust system looks like post-modification to fit the little Toyota’s underbody. The humps had to be elongated to accomodate for the Prius’ nickel-metal hydride batteries:
It’s the first time in a while that we’ve welded titanium (the M Roadster’s skid plates are made from the same-grade material), but apparently it’s just like riding a bike. Except, you know, not at all. But the welds came out looking great!
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the revealing of our pride and joy, the most recent project car to be touched by the hands of Fluid MotorUnion…Project X!
We can’t get into too many details about it now, as we’re waiting for the publications to put out the cover stories, but we can tell you about a few features that it’s packing. It’s got…aftermarket taillights!
…Painted calipers and rotor hats!
…It’s also got a world-first vinyl wrap, the details of which are unparalleled by those of any other company. The vinyl’s called “Just out of the Rain,” and it looks exactly like it’s named.
And finally, our favorite feature…not one, but TWO colors of air freshener.
