09 Nov Our E90 M3 Hits The Dyno
And it’s certainly left an impression, at least in our eardrums.
We took this video today as to show the beginning of our R&D for some new velocity stacks for the E90 M3 (and for another project car, but we won’t jump the gun on those details just yet).
You may recognize the first set of stacks in the video as our custom-fabricated carbon fiber stacks, lovingly nicknamed the “Medusa” stacks.
The second set of stacks have been previously mentioned in the blog, as well. They’re our custom-fabricated aluminum stacks, created by the endlessly knowledgeable Mike Eastway. Their presence on the M3, while not as visually daunting, are equally impressive in terms of output. As the description for the video says, we aren’t going to be releasing numbers or gains yet, as we are still plenty early in the R&D stages for these stacks. The one change that should be fairly obvious, however, is the aggressive shift in both tone and volume. AJ heard last night’s testing (with just the Medusa stacks) from his house. Andrew will probably be able to hear tonight’s aluminum stack testing from his place in downtown Chicago.
Well, probably not, but that would be pretty great, wouldn’t it? Either way, let’s let the video do the rest of the talking:

Posted at 18:47h, 10 JuneHey I love the way the V. Stacks look. but how is it gaining power? Would it not be pulling warmer air into the throttle bodies versus the stock airbox after 25minutes of driving?

Posted at 11:26h, 13 JuneSome of the power is gained through the tune, the rest is gained through the removal of the longer, more restrictive plenum assembly. The heat soak is something to consider, yes, but keeping the car moving also keeps a steady airflow through the engine bay, helping to draw out some of the ambient heat. The power gains are there for the reasons they are, but we choose to focus on velocity stacks as an addition that not only gives you a little more power, but also an epic sound that’s impossible to replicate with other intake systems.
