21 Dec Danger To Manifold!
Don’t worry about that warning; we should be fine since Perry’s 190E doesn’t come with a diamond-plated floor.
Since quite a few of you were very interested in the Cosworth motor we teased on Instagram and our Facebook page, we figured we would start constructing a more fleshed-out blog post for you to enjoy. So let’s dive into the 190’s engine bay and see how fabrication is coming on the metalwork, shall we? First, before any manifold work took place, we found our optimal position for the turbocharger:
From there, we took the manifold’s collector and fashioned some basic positioning mounts. This way, the collector stays in place, allowing us to both path out the manifold’s runners while also keeping the entire turbocharger setup aligned as we want it.
With that out of the way, we began work on the manifold’s runners. After the first one was completed, we found we were fresh out of straight pieces of the steel we use for manifolds; all we had left were the bends. So an order was placed and we started work on other corners of the car.
As we mentioned before, the turbo was mounted on top of the collector, and the collector was connected to the body by way of some temporary mounts. Since we needed to find a more permanent solution anyway, we went about doing it while we waited for the steel to arrive. The two mounting points for the valve cover seemed like the perfect location. And they were!
A quick coat of black paint (since the mounts are made of mild steel, which can rust if left unprotected) and the mount was complete!
Since the metal hadn’t yet arrived, we went about doing the charge piping. First, we did the passenger side, going from the snail to the intercooler. Second, we did the driver side, from intercooler to intake manifold.
And that’s where we’ve built up to this point. The steel arrived this afternoon, so we have the manifold removed from the engine bay and ready for more tacks and welds. Which means you’ll be seeing more of this build in the coming days!
